The Cambridge Rocket Club hosted it’s 5th launch of the season on July 19, 2025. This was also our first mini-launch of the season where we did not bring out the club launching equipment and those that participated brought their own launch pads or shared others. We were greeted with ideal flying conditions with a blue sky, warm temperatures and very calm winds.
Nine club members showed up with eight launching 33 model rockets. The rockets included cluster rockets. two and three stage rockets, camera rockets, scale rockets and a streamer duration demonstration flight. We flew everything from 1/2A engines to G engines. By the end of the day we burned 46 model rocket engines with a theoretical total impulse of 1,810 neutons.
I also hosted a streamer duration workshop for those in attendance explaining how to optimize your model for flight as well as a few tricks of the trade to assure a qualified flight. The model demonstrated flew on a 1/2A.3-4T engine and recorded a competitive flight time of 51 seconds. Hopefully some of the tips given will be incorporated in the models flown at our annual streamer duration contest sponsored by the Canadian Rocket Store on August 9th.
This mini-launch was so successful that I will be looking at scheduling one or two more before the season ends. The possible date for the next mini-launch to be considered is August 16th.
