We finally got our often weather delay May launch off the ground on Monday May 19th. The weather was not ideal with cool temperatures and wind gusts up to 25 kph at times. Field conditions at our primary launch site on the south side of Mohawk Road is now accessible and was utilized for this launch providing a much larger recovery zone than the north side of the road.
We has 14 Cambridge Rocket Club members and 2 new CRC members at the launch. Welcome aboard. The wind gusts prevented us from flying many of our larger and more powerful models. We did however launch several multi-stage, cluster, camera, scale and F engine models. By the end of the day we managed to launch 42 model rockets burning 50 model rocket engines with a theoretical total impulse of 560 Neutons. We even managed to recover a rocket that landed about 10 metres up in a tree using our club’s new extension pole. The pole worked perfectly and will be available to all flyers at future launches.
Our next scheduled launch will be on June 14th with the theme of Scale Models. We will also be providing a parachute spot landing target for those that wish to practice for July’s Open Spot Landing contest.
